The Pleiades

Lay the coffin out- how the seven stars burn

The Gods of rain, the Pleiades, the weather turns

The Seven Sisters of the winter-north embalm

The evident ears of earth,

listen to the Pleione’s mourning psalm.

Seen overhead, the young maidens flickering

From the north they befell, yet to hell they fell

In the light of Taurus, brooding and bickering

To the house of their mother, you could tell

Shimmering sorrow of Atlas, and his pale glittering

The sound of bereavement, like the tolling bells.
