The Person I Almost Became

There was a girl I almost knew,

who walked the roads I never chose,

who held her dreams a little tighter

and never feared where they might go.

She wore the courage I misplaced,

she spoke the words I swallowed whole.

Sometimes I wonder where she lives-

that stranger with my borrowed soul.

Perhaps she isn't lost at all,

perhaps she's waiting patiently,

in every choice I haven't made,

in every person I could be.
