The Ordeal Of Hotel Industry

The Hotel Industry was effervescent,

With thriving business, in the economy it made a dent,

People expending more on Leisure,

Demand for Hospitality Services grew greater & greater,

The Sector became one of the Key Economic Growth D rivers,

Offering to its customers, perks and perquisites diverse.

Unfortunately, the booming industry came to a halt,

Nothing else, but the Covid-19 Global Pandemic is at fault,

Unleashing its Wrath & Crippling the world economies,

Today, the Virus is the biggest of the enemies,

The worst hit being the Hospitality Sector,

With broken limbs of Tourism & Travel, it’s a nasty fracture.

In order to contain The Virus from spreading,

The restrictions & lockdowns are dreading,

With social distancing norms,

Hotel Industry's survival has become arduous in various forms,

People being afraid of stepping out,

With no bookings, hoteliers are freezing out,

Another blow has been given by the new Work Culture,

For the Revenues from business Travel, Work from Home acted as a Vulture,

As the Tourism, Travel & Hospitality are like the Cogwheels,

Any Speed-breaker for the one makes the other one to kneel,

Holidays & vacations are now in Dreams,

For Revival in near future, there seems to be no hopeful Beams,

With changed people's preferences,

The Virus is acting as the Hotel Industry's nemesis,

With Mounting Fixed Costs and Zero Revenues,

For resurrection, there seems to be no Avenues,

Whether it’s big Hotel Chains or independent Operators Boot-Strapped,

Hoteliers are now becoming Cash-Strapped,

The new Mantra, for surviving this crisis, is Frugality,

But this will have catastrophic trickle-down effects in reality,

For Skilled/Unskilled, the Sector had a myriad of employment opportunities,

However, a descend or erosion of employment, are the eventualities,

Layoffs and salary cuts, in order to Sail,

Are being meted out to the employees who worked tooth & nail,

While, the Mid-Market Segment is enduring,

On the other hand, the Unbranded Segment is severing.

The Sector is in dire need of a recourse,

Coming up with lucrative schemes, it itself is in force,

Nonetheless, on the road to economic prosperity,

The Hotel Industry as a gestalt, needs to withstand this severity,

This rearranged lifestyle cannot be the new normal,

Restoring the old vigour along with new chutzpah, unitedly we have to trample,

Defeating the Pandemic, we have to live zestfully,

And be each other's support system truly,

Hospitality is the lifeline of the services sector,

We can't just witness its downfall as a spectator,

So, Let's plan a trip or a vacation,

And hope for the Industry's growth resumption.

P.S. – Hotel Industry is the Economy’s face

Right now, caught up in a distressing Maze

The looming Economic Downturn

Can be staved off, by conspicuous spending in turn
