The open window

How can I blame the wind for the mess it made,

When it was I who opened the window that day?

I let it in, playful and free,

Not thinking of the chaos it could bring to me.

It scattered papers, tossed my hair,

Whipped through corners everywhere.

At first I sighed, I wanted to blame,

But then I paused and saw the same.

The wind only acted as I allowed,

I opened the door, I drew the crowd.

The storms we face, the trouble we see,

Often begin with a choice from me.

Now I learn to open with care and thought,

To welcome what’s good, avoid what’s not.

Responsibility starts with what we do,

The wind is just wind it’s me who lets it through.
