The Mirror

I came across a mirror,

Flawed, unkind,

Harsh around the edges,

Grazed, cleaved,

Murky brown and golden speckled.

In that mirror,

Though unclear,

I caught myself smiling,

Like never before.

I felt seen,

Like never before.

Fell in love with the reflection,

Like never before.

Until I realized,

The reflection

Could only mirror

The light within.

It was never the mirror,

Murky brown and golden speckled,

But me

To begin with.
