The Might of Womankind

Lo, reckon not the maiden frail,

Nor deem her soul a trembling veil;

For ere the mountains found their frame,

The Lord had whisper’d forth her name.

She beareth dawn within her breast,

And cradleth kingdoms unto rest;

From weary dust she doth arise,

With steadfast heart and watchful eyes.

Though tempests rend her mantle fair,

She bindeth hope from dark despair;

Where swords have fail’d and crowns have fled, Her gentle hand bringeth forth bread.

She weepeth not for weakness’ sake, But for the hearts that sorrow make; Yet every tear, by Heaven known,

Becometh pearls before His throne.

The tyrant’s chain may bruise the flesh, Yet cannot bind her spirit fresh;

For Freedom dwelleth in her soul,

Beyond the grasp of mortal dole.

She is the keeper of the flame,

Though none remembereth her name; The silent oak beside the sea,

Whose roots embrace Eternity.

The mother, sister, daughter dear,

The voice that kings themselves must hear; No sceptre’s gold, nor warrior’s might, Outshineth her enduring light.

She treadeth where the angels sing, And maketh winter bloom as spring; With wisdom wrought in sacred fire, She lifteth nations ever higher.

Therefore let every trumpet sound, Till Heaven’s lofty halls resound:

“Honour the daughters of the earth”, For none may measure well their worth.

For woman is no lesser star,

Nor distant light from realms afar; She is the moon, the sun, the sea- God’s living verse of majesty.

And when the final bells shall toll, And Time surrendereth every soul, Her love shall yet through ages tower- The everlasting crown of Woman’s Power.
