THE MARIONETTE

The strings pull on her,

Her hands move mechanically.

Her eyes are coloured hazy blur,

She drags her heels mindlessly.

The followspot light falls on her,

Her expressions only change when someone demands.

Her words come out as slurs,

She sinks in the sand.

Her hair is tied back with properity,

Not a single strand sticking out.

Take one glance and you know there is no verity,

There is nothing to her or about.

It is a stage for her to perform in,

She bends in an arc when it ends.

Even with no audience and the lights off,

The marionette wires spin.

It is the greatest show in the history,

And she is the main actor.
