The Magical World I Remember

Around a cabin

Up the hill,

An enchanted forest

So alive and yet so still

A place deep in the forest

But that did not scare me.

I was a brave 7 year old

Full of dreams

The lush green trees

Would sway with me

To the song of the wind

My soul set free

A stream of water glistened

Reflecting the sun’s light,

As the water hit the rocks,

And splashed onto me

A little fairy dust

From nature’s magic, I would feel

After two years,

I went to visit again

To see nature’s beauty

But the sight only brought pain

My happy place

Not so happy anymore

The trees all dried up

And the river flows no more

All I saw were endless rows

Of leafless brown trees,

The fireflies are all gone

The forest has lost its glow

From a few years ago

This is just one example

Of effects of climate change,

Two years is all it took

And as a child left,

my dreams shook

How can we ignore?

A problem that could erase all mankind,

Why is it just buried?

At the back of our minds,

And kept las on our priority list,

Slowly forgetting the fact,

That climate change exists

Even after actions were taken,

If we fail to address the issue,

We are mistaken to believe

We will not soon turn to dust

Except for this time

It will not be anything magical

That is one thing

You can trust.
