It was dark everywhere as Richard walks into his apartment. Beat after a long day at work. Reaching out for the light switch as he tried to adjust his eyes in the darkness. Shadows moving all around him, as he flicked it.
"Click!!"
The sound seemed to resonate throughout his apartment like an empty room as he sighed, turning to kick the door slightly with his heel as it bolted shut behind him.
"Man, I need to stop watching all those horror movies before I go insane"; muttering to himself as he felt his heart race a bit when he caught sight of something quickly dart past him; "I've got to stop watching all these horror movies or I'll end up with a heart attack".
Slowly making his way to the kitchen, he drops his backpack on the couch in his spacious 2-bedroom apartment. Books strewn all over the floor as if a slight hurricane visited him. He immediately knew what caused it, but he was not entirely feeling it that night to address it, maybe in the morning since it was the weekend.
He drops his grocery bag on the counter, setting apart a medium sized box close to the fridge as he sorted and arranged each item in its proper spot. "This would make a nice dinner", he said as grabs himself an ice cold can of orange soda while setting two objects on the counter out of the box.
Enrique and Edwina sat together at the mountain side enjoying the night sky before being abruptly thrust into daytime. Time must have passed on quickly as they didn't realize it or anything else. Looking at her as she sat thoughtful staring into the dark, he edges towards her closer. He scratches his head like a shy teenager as he slowly reaches for her hand. This was the night he wanted to ask her out. The night he wanted...
to tell her all about his feelings. The night he would make her his girl. The special night he planned to make her see him differently and love him endlessly.
Edwina seemed to stare at the stars in the distance as she pulled a bit of grass and tossed it down the cliff. Tonight was beautiful, so she thought... blushing as she looked at him from her side. Why was she feeling flushed? This tingling sensation emitting within her that sent cold shivers down her spine as she slowly edged towards him. She could smell him, like cinnamon mixed with mint, she caught a whiff of his cologne as she was only inches away from him.
What was he thinking? She thought to herself. Enrique was short of words, he gulped several times over as the words that formed in his head only seemed to dissipate when his lips parted, finding no words, he shut them again.
“DA-THUMP!! DA-THUMP!!!” His heart beat faster as his started to sweat... ‘What is he going to do?’; he thought to himself.
He certainly didn't want to blow it with her. He saw her quickly look away as their eyes caught for a moment. And in that moment, he felt his heart skip a beat, as his mind ascended to the heavens as he began to smile sheepishly.
"Damn, was she a sight to behold." he thought to himself as he suddenly noticed she was now too close to him. "What was she thinking?”; he muttered to himself.
She loved him from a distance, even though they stayed in the same apartment. She always wondered what it would be like to date him, as she stared at him dreamily everytime she caught a glimpse of him. Tonight, she was just as stunned as ever when he asked her out to see the stars. She felt glad she was picked, but she wondered if he felt the same way as her.
She gasped as something grabs her hand....
She looks at her hand, lips wide open as her eyes slowly raced upwards.
It's been a rough week as he purposely walked past her everyday so he could gaze upon Edwina, as the sight gave his spirit comfort from all the troubles the world had to offer. She was his peace of mind. With time, he knew he had to take action or risk losing her, the latter which wasn't what he wanted. And so, he planned this outing just to see if she felt the same way as him.
With his heart beating like a drum, as she sat beside him, he grabs her hand without hesitation.
She gasps in surprise as her eyes slowly meets his gaze, trapping them both in a swirl of emotions. She stared at him longingly, and without the need for spoken words, he pulls her in for a kiss.
Slow, sensual, intoxicating and passionate, he held her close, close to his heart, body and soul as he tasted those sweet lips in her hot embrace. Oh, how he wanted her more than anything else in the world.
Edwina, eyes closed and mind blank as she savored every bit of that kiss. Oh, how she waited this long for this. Inside, she felt happy and he glad as they both burnt in the fires of desire.
Like a shadow, it crept swiftly, darting to and fro with quiet precision as it made its way towards the cliff. Eyes gleamed in the dark like jade as the creature moved slowly & quietly towards them. With fangs bared and claws out, the creature edged towards the couple as they held each other lip locked at the edge of the cliff. One step, two step, three step and it was almost a breath away from them. Like a looming shadow, it hounded over them, and with a swift swipe from its paws, the couple was sent flying off the cliff.
It took a moment to realize what just happened, as they plummeted to the bottom....
Edwina screaming as Enrique holds her close, he silently mutters the words;
"I got you and I'll never let you go.", which seemed to bring her peace as they looked at each other smiling as everything went dark as they both hit the ground hard.
Brain matter spilled all over the place as blood trickled down from their broken and mangled bodies. Enrique, still holding Edwina died smiling, just as she died happy.
The creature peering over them, unremorseful as it licked its paws out of satisfaction....
Not for hunger, no, no... But because it disliked seeing couples hang out by that spot. Certainly, all would agree this wasn't its first time doing that.
The lights came on and there, standing by the doorway stood Richard, angry...
"Seriously? Again? That was my dinner, you… fiend. This is the 5th time this week."; he angrily retorts, as the culprit looks at him unapologetic.
Picking up a mop, he angrily swipes in the air causing the cat to leave the counter.
"Darn cat, Get Out!!"
Richard, looking at the mess, sighs...
"Those were probably the last ones. I'll have to buy another batch tomorrow."; he says as he cleans up the eggs from the floor. With yolk that somehow formed a heart on the floor.
Richard smiles and goes to search the fridge for an alternative for dinner...
The End…
