The Last Pilgrimage

We set out

On the last pilgrimage

To the one who rules my heart

After long we went

On the last pilgrimage

To the one who lives in my heart

Unbearable was the wait

Till we reached

The goal of the last pilgrimage

Till I could set my eyes

On the one who stole my heart

My life seemed incomplete

My heart was aflame with love

Yet my body seemed weary

Reminding me of the lengths we travelled

The pain was ironic

Here I was with the one whose song calls out to me

But deeply saddened I was

For how long can one stay

Far

From the centre of our lives

After seemingly

Interminable hours

I finally found myself with my Beloved

A moment of peace

Was all that I wanted

But he gave me an eternity

All alone I sat with him

And as I write

I cannot but wonder at the immensity each time I see him

Years I have travelled

Years I have rested

But never like this

The signs said

For certain

That I am yours, will be yours

Yet before long

It was time

To leave

As I cling on

To your last sight

I could not help

But turn back

And thank you

For the last pilgrimage
