The Last Goodbye
By Soni Singh
Someone asked me once,
When was the last time I felt something?
I replied with a lamenting voice,
When he said goodbye that evening.
I remember that dusky night yet,
As the sun was slowly setting down.
I could hear the voice of his steps,
Moving away from the town.
I was screaming his name,
And running barefoot toward him.
But as I was moving forward,
All I could see was a cloudy misty dim.
My heart suddenly skipped a beat,
And the ocean filled in my eyes.
I fell to the ground on my knees,
His promises turned into a book of lies.
The vows he did in his warmth,
Those songs he sang once.
Were they all just beautiful lies?
Phenomenally enfolded into a wreath of thorns.
He made me believe that love doesn't exist,
Loyalty is just a surrogate of the lie.
Promises are meant to be broken,
And people come together to say goodbye.
My heart is now scared of love,
It's a grave of millions of broken dreams.
No more trust, no more faith,
It just cries silently and quietly screams.
Shattered dreams and vows,
Even the brightest moon now seems dim.
A hollow heart with futile walls,
I wish he loved me the way I loved him.
