The last confession

Tell me where is the sun’s shadow?

Such is the nature of our love

For it does not cast a shadow.

Our names both end with a vowel like love-

could this mean that love will be our end result?

You were always just a stone’s throw away,

and like oxygen I could always take in the good parts of you,

and like carbon dioxide expel the bad.

You used to be close,

now I look for a droplet in the sea.

Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish

the pain of the one who cuts you

and the one who sews the wound-

but I hope you are the latter.

Since a gun is pointed at every head

and we have all been promised to death,

this leaves us with last words and confessions.

My last words are that I love you

despite my confession-

which is that I should have treated you better.
