The Lamp

A lamp is lit in the corner of the room.

The room is dark, the lamp, the lone source of light.

The lamp lies unnoticed in a corner,

The light noticed,

Desired for some time and then not.

The lamp is switched off and then forgotten.

Yet when it goes off, suddenly.

It is seen and remembered.

Its illumination craved; the lamp wished for.

And all is lost.

Only to be replaced by a new lamp

But for the briefest of moment;

It was valued.

It is valued.

For the lamp, it doesn’t matter

It goes on giving its light

Sometimes seen;

By someone like me

Sometimes not

All that mattered

And all that matters is the light

In darkness

For the lone lamp
