The Lake
By Vihaan Riju
Between the rolling hills of green, Where only nature can be seen Lay I, an oval of sparkly blue, Surrounded by willows and maple, a spectacular view!
I am a provider of life, And spare critters from thirst’s knife, I have feasts for birds that in my muddy banks they squirm, They are the rulers of the dirt, grubs and worms
On my surface are lily pads,
A spot of green among the blue it adds, But more importantly they are the home of toads and frogs, To save them from predators like wild hogs
My floor is made of smooth stones, Carved from the earth and ancient bones Where here and there a fish lurks, My waters they usurp
At night, I shine like a star, My beauty and glory is known afar Man has tried to find me from their legends, but all in vain For never will they find me, those who destroy nature for personal gain
If you are a true soul, Who is righteous with a pure goal, Then if you shall walk the leafy parts of my forest, Upon me you shall stumble, and feel ever warmest
