THE INVINCIBLE BOND

The world can be a serpent, cold and sly,

Injecting venom, marking me a defect in its eye.

Past the building where fear once stood tall,

I leave the heavy silence of the hospital wall.

On my right, my mother - you are the source.

Not the moon, catching a borrowed beam,

But the furnace itself -

Burning with a fierce, quiet luminescence

That the world, in its blindness, so often misses.

For miles and centuries, your light has traveled,

Carrying the weight of a love

That consumes itself just to keep me warm.

You step on thorns so my feet find smooth ground;

You take the mayhem of my pain

And break it down into gentle words,

Soothing the ache until it fades.

They do not see the work of your hands,

The way you put yourself last,

Yet you remain unbothered by their eyes.

You are witty, chirpy, beautifully innocent,

Shining in full esteem whether they notice or not.

On my left, my brother, keeping my spirit upright,

To the almighty, I am endlessly grateful -

For my ultimate hero,

The brightest star in my sky.

In the blink of an eye, you quiet the storm,

Catching my tears before they hit the ground.

You are the baseline of my healing,

The soul on whom I entirely rely.

Erasing the darkness, through the storms you fought,

Pulling me from the scary shadows of the night,

Searching with me for the meaning of absolute light.

There you stand, brother, holding my hand,

You shower me with safety, clear the storm in my mind,

Leaving the monster far behind.

Let the world look or look away;

My heart has found its anchor.

And it points your way.

Let the well keep its ghosts, let the gods keep their stone,

For with these two beside me, I am never alone.
