The Idea of Me

You broke the promise you swore to keep,

And killed me in the name of saving me.

You read me as a story,

Though I should’ve been poetry,

A misconception you chose to foresee..

You painted an image in your mind,

And broke a bet when things went out of line.

Who was she, a prisoner in your design?

Someone you thought would always align?

I wondered, did you ever truly know me,

Or were you just lost in the idea of me?

A constant question that only ended me,

Of who I am, and who you thought I’d be.

I had to disguise the scars on my spine,

Each wound a reminder of the unseen fight.

When nothing was spoken but the truth,

Words were used as blades in disguise.
