The Hearts' Woe
By Sylvia Leong
Cold fingers caress her cheeks,
honey-dripping words he speaks.
Mind confuses between love and lust,
but a hopeful heart begins to trust.
Strangers to lovers,
as long as we're in the bed covers.
What does this mean?
Will it be like a movie scene?
Hush now, the mind appears,
I'm warning you the heart has fears.
The hands are held loose,
but the tongues are tied.
In public, he is colder than ice.
In the bedroom, he is twice as nice.
Beware sings the heart,
His honey-dripping words are a work of art.
Doubt grows, and self-love froze.
Criticism and insults were a bitter dose.
For he became messiah,
She started to become a pariah.
Consciousness kicked in,
His anger and tears took me for a spin.
Back to where we started,
together but somehow parted.
The clarity of choice comes and goes,
Suddenly, I'm with a broken nose.
Fight back my love, my soul screams to me.
Can we ever escape, or truly be free?
It starts to snow early in December
For I very well remember.
The clarity I gained
when I saw myself drained.
The concept of love changed.
Blossoms in winter started to grow,
as I understood how self-love could glow.
