The Girl I Left in The Mirror

She still lingers where I left her,

Behind the veiled glass.

Her eyes still trapped by a fear

She thought would always last.

She wore silence like skin;

Her smile, a clever guise.

She forced herself into boxes

And lived her life in lies.

Somewhere along the way,

The glass began to blur.

Not from mist, but from space,

As the mirror forgot her.

As the light shifted,

Her outline began to fade,

Freeing me to reject my conformity,

When judgement had made her afraid.

She no longer lingers where I left her,

Behind glass grown clear.

A pair of steady eyes met mine,

Familiar and unburdened by fear.
