The Final One

Original Submission by Filiah Kahar

Getting to know you

Was nerve wrecking yet new

Truly one of kind

Somehow you’re always on my mind

We accept the love we think we deserve

Never thought I would find this quote something of worth

I hope you’re here to stay

And I’ll no longer go astray

I still recall her asking me

When will I allow myself to be loved and cared for

Before I got to know you

I had already blocked you

Why are you always walking behind

Something so small yet impactful as it reminds

I’m taught to protect my family since young

I have never let anyone sunk

I guess that’s why I am used to being the big spoon

When all I wanted was someone to make my heart swoon

To have someone hold me and tell me they love me

Is it that hard to live and feel free

Then I turned around and here you are

The unexpected final one

I wanted to take a break from all the dating

As it was tiring and seemed never-ending

If I open and give my heart to you

Will you be my last love

Can this love last a lifetime

It won’t be easy but life’s a climb

To put that much effort in me

To face my friends and family

Wow you must really love me

If not I don’t know what else it can be

Your kindness, effort and reassurance

Loving me takes a whole lot of endurance

Drama, complexity and depth

Somehow you’ve got me swept

I hope you can give me some time my dear

As I am not used to people being sincere

People usually want something out of me

Slowly but surely I’ll be yours if you’ll have all of me

I love you

Why does that sound scary

I hope you won’t leave me

With you, maybe finally I’ll feel free
