The Featherless Sparrow
By Shivani Arora
The wings chopped off from the ground
the walls caging the bird around
the crying fell on deaf ears
the yearning felt with dull fear
The flight reduced to mere flapping
the ordeal increased to breaths gaping
The sun kissed body is not shut out
the only solace is found in round about
The screams were already dead
the glass had shattered and bled
the dreams had vanished to roam free
the flight had cost the bird its fee
When it lay lifeless on ground
it gave a last thought aloud
maybe the fight was against inner demons
and it felt peaceful in the clouds
