The Eternally Broken Silence Of War
By Anusha Seth
In the stillness after chaos,
I find peace.
The eternally broken silence of war,
Lay me in your arms till I bleed.
I lay, in the woven pieces that made a tragedy
A tapestry so beautiful that it’s crafter bled
When she saw what she’d done to me
I lay, in a world so beautiful and wild
But I stepped on broken glass that crushed me
Drunk on power, abuse and lies
Men, white, of a certain breed.
I lay, in a world where the strings of my fate are intertwined
Gordian, with people, who I don’t even know
But who have immense power to ruin my life
I lay, in a world where women weep,
And men aren’t supposed to cry
Their skin is toxic or society
I lay, in a world that’s torment to those,
Poor and pain and suffer the most.
I lay, in a world with a mobile phone
That I’d like to say has ruined the lives of most
I lay in a world that’s going to end itself
Take a knife and slit its throat
But we, as people, do not care
Humanity has lost on its own
Let the damn world be suicidal
Because we were never the cause
I lay in a world where I might never find
Sunshine, hope or anything nice.
I lay in a world destroyed
By its own people like it was a kingdom on the line.
I lay, in the echoes of pain that touch these walls
Desperately clawing at them to be set free
I lay, in a world so broken and burned
Watching these walls get painted red with violence, hopelessness and defeat.
And as I close my eyes I feel
The burn that sets me free,
But also takes away all the lives
That were hopeful and green.
The eternally broken silence of war,
Lay me in your arms till I bleed
For,
Who am I to dwell in your world of sorrow
Where rivers weep into the sea
Who am I to constantly kill myself
Over what you have done to me
Who am I to be silenced?
Silenced, till I can’t breathe
And words of solace, anger and help escape my mouth
Is it even my life if I’m not allowed to lead myself away from all the hate and envy?
