The End

At the pinnacle of our youth

We were heedless, imprudent, impecunious

Not thinking as much about the future

As knowing what our purpose for the day was

And going all out to get things done

Everyday had some point to it

Even days when we were doing absolutely nothing

Seemed to have some meaning

Some action in our inaction

As we lay in search of the experience of true purpose

Time elapsed

Days, weeks, months, years

Spring, summer, fall, winter

We grew old

Despondent, arthritic, weary

And the saddest part of getting old

Of getting decrepit

Of getting weaker in spirit, mind and body

Was losing that sense of purposefulness of our youth

And with that, we lost everything
