The Empty Cup

I held my cup with a greedy grip,

Waiting for the world to fill each sip.

I filled it high with fame and gold,

With every story I was ever told.

But the more I poured, the less I had

A hollow soul, a heart grown sad.

For a cup already full can hold no more

Of the peace that waits beyond its door.

So I turned it over and let it spill,

Until the restless mind grew still.

Now I walk with an empty hand,

Yet I am the richest man in all the land.
