The Earth Pierces The Sky On This Fine Day
By Prerana Srinivasan
The earth pierces the sky on this fine day
Autumn’s leaves have kissed the wet brown they say
My heart beats in sorrow longing for a future that could’ve never been
Soft tendrils of black make known their place when
I hear the hail calling out my name
My longing soon fades for the hail fills the wound
What I thought of hell is a place now known
Deep inside I still shiver
Though pain is a prophecy I can’t abandon
I don’t wish for her to glimmer
In all her dusty hues of grey
I beg for her to clear my way
Am I to be at her behest till the hour of my demise?
I still long its for summer skies
of blue
Joy encompassed in buttercups
Yet they won’t come my way now I can tell
Watching from my window panes
Painting the frosted morning
with wet fingertips of sorrow
It all clears out
It all clears out
I stare at the clear glass
I am free now
Torn apart by the shackles which bound me to the earth
Free I am lifted up as the pieces touch the ground
The blue skies embrace all of my being
softly caressing the smog from the embers left behind
yet it remains
Momentary bliss fades
Lilting words of honey fade
It crumbles time and time again
Hail shall be my home
Vain the bride of my lifeless effigy
She nurses the child of contempt who grows within
the dilapidated womb of my kin
Hail is now my home
Hail is now home
