The Death Of Patroculus

By Sharanya S Rao

Achilles’ grief

He finally came to his senses

and when it all sinked in

he realized he was cursed to live

while half of his soul remains banished

alone in darkness

He wept vehemently

his grief so loud

it would echo through eternity

And rage gushing in his veins

poured out through his spear

While his other half ran through nothingness

only for a glimpse of his light

He loved him in life, loved him in death

And even after his love remained

the only legacy of his left behind

If only Achilles had known

that he would have to pay

a price so heavy for his glory,

he would burn it away in a heartbeat

instead of losing what he beheld

most dearest to him – Patroculus
