The Colour Blue

the colour blue reminds me of my days as a seven year old

my love for its shades over any vibrant yellow, red, or green

it reminds me of my mother's kanchivaram with golden borders and a tint of violet

it reminds me of The Bluest Eye

and of a room in the hills where I spent a night trying to fix my broken heart like some sixteen year old

the colour blue reminds me of The Famous Blue Raincoat and the one person that I can't not think of every time I hear its tunes

it reminds me of all the vibrant shades of the skies that I've seen in my city, and in distant lands several miles away from home

it reminds me of a friend who walked the streets of Bhawanipur with me to help me a saree I was looking for

a darker shade of blue often reminds me of the hills at 4 in the morning

a bit of sparkling gold reminds me of the bangles I owned as a child

and the colour of what had been my room for several years until we sold off the apartment a couple of months ago
