The Bent Tree

By Esha Jaiswal

We would steal moments talking to each other parked under a bent tree shielded by the caramel boundary wall on one side of a pretty bungalow, that I'd always admire, just at the turn, by the middle eastern restaurant across from the cars passing by..

Light filtered through to us from between the long thin leaves of the bent tree and it felt cool and cozy, always..

There would be times we'd just sit together parked in silence, enjoying each other's company.

I thought, these were the moments that built us, got us closer together.

However, that spot, it became a witness to our closeness as well as our falling apart - when the silence was of confusion and strain.

Parked under a bent tree

shielded by the caramel boundary wall

of a pretty bungalow,

that I'd always admire,

just at the turn, by the middle eastern restaurant.
