THE BADAM TREE

Oh, the great badam tree, thy robust boughs

Spreading majestically, drenching thy

Divine boons on all and sundry, standing tall and regal

Thy mighty presence a haven for living beings galore

The dawn embracing us with the melody of the sparrows,

The skylarks, the humming birds and the squirrels

Scurrying hither and tither thine many-layered foliage

Many a traveller favouring thy benevolent silhouette

Refugees from the searing sun, the blaze of ascendance

Conjuring wastelands of our living abodes

Dust and dirt alighting with abandon on thy leaves

Preserving Gaia in all her pristine glory

Amidst the dazzling tapestry of thy verdant splendour

Unfold August and September, the hues of autumn

Descending upon thy boughs, the blazing orange sunset

Painting thy verdure in hazy brown and gold

Alas, the unrelenting autumnal cascade

The weeping willows in rebellion

Defying thy tormentors, but lo behold,

The buds of life sprouting anew

Germinal blossoms heralding new horizons

The dawning of hope and unwavering fortitude

Oh my arbour, my burden tree
