The Art Of Escapism

With every turn of a page

her vision turned blurry

as tears threatened to escape.

Books became her way to escape from reality,

a reality she’d rather pretend didn’t exist

be it just for a while.

This had become a routine for her,

living her reality in the day

and the protagonist’s life by midnight.

She’d laugh, cry, hate, love,

find a friend in some of the characters

and for a while forget about

the loneliness she lived with.
