The Anatomy of Love
By Snigdha Mishra
your piercing blue veins on the flexors of your forearm, like fading line segments blurring the boundary between the mundane and the extraordinary - seemingly commonplace yet mysteriously sensual
your impossibly enormous hands, like a paradox with the rest of your delicate body, with robust knuckles yet gentle palms that instantly melt into mine each time i caress them with love
your baggy under eyes, like the morbid spectres of life’s aloofness - dark yet beautiful in the most honest way i could imagine
your deep chestnut eyes, like obscure hallways holding secrets i’ll probably spend an entire lifetime uncovering yet seducing my basic brown ones to drown into them deeper with every glance
your delightfully curious brain, like a well written novel i am lured into savouring word to word - complex in its layered intricacies yet simple enough to comprehend on a level that i didn’t know was possible
your vulnerable embrace, like the snug blanket i wrap myself in on cold nights when you can’t - warm enough to keep me comforted yet short enough to keep me wanting more
your taste, like the zest of an orange peel - tangy, refreshing and sinfully indulgent yet completely unlike anything else my soul has ever devoured
your crooked smile, like the uneven road to an uncharted destination - dangerous enough to make me fall harder than i could have dreamt of in my wildest dreams yet safe enough to make me feel like i’m finally home after years of having no place to call so
you, like a mesmerising concept,
a confounding enigma,
a film in slow motion,
an uninhibited answer - all in one -
intimately real yet frustratingly intangible,
so very close yet so very far
