The Airport Terminal

At the terminal, time stands still,

A heavy heart, a quiet chill.

The minutes crawl, the moments bend,

As if they fear this journey's end.

A suitcase waits beside my feet,

Yet what I carry is not complete.

Not shirts, not books, not things I own,

But pieces of a life I've known.

My mother's eyes hold silent tears,

My father's smile can't hide his fears.

Among the crowd, love lingers near,

Refusing still to disappear.

They say I'm leaving for a dream,

For brighter roads and sights unseen.

But what could ever greater be

Than where my heart first learned to be?

The boarding gate begins to call,

I take a step, yet leave it all.

As skies unfold and miles depart,

A piece of home stays in my heart.

For home is not a place left behind,

Nor lost with passing miles of time.

It walks beside me, near and true,

A cherished bond that carries through.

The gate swings wide, I move ahead,

With silent words still left unsaid.

Yet in my heart one scene will stay-

That terminal, and those I walked away from that day.
