Tense Pretense
By B Chandran
In a time where oceans go still and walls grow tall I remember the cacophony of stars as they consume us all.
Here lies an untoasted bread floating over Lakshadweep. I drop another slice, it soaks up the Pacific, see?
Did you find the soot? And keep walking the lie?
Ignored the broken promise that was once mine?
Find a harmful pin sharp and rusty in a sense. Pierce the crust and mantle there’s no more innocence.
I watch the planet collapse into itself watched it with morbid curiosity. Is there another marble in deep space? We burnt the blue one in this galaxy.
You keep the pin in it and go back in time. Reverse the broken promise that remains mine.
The past isn’t the only way the present mixed in its stead. Remember to recall those promises and remember to recall what lies ahead.
