Ten Is To Five
By Keroline
Every day we had a guest
At noon he was at our step
My aunt shared our lunch with him
I always wondered why this thing.
Licking his fingers, he asked for more
To have his fill and bless our door
My day soon came I couldn’t resist
My curious mind just wouldn’t sit
I asked my aunt, “why this act?”
His plate got fuller, I got mad
A child’s mind I wanted some more
But my aunt’s mind was divine folklore.
She opened all her ten fingers slowly
And asked me to count them one by one
I stopped at ten to jeer at her
Wondering what just happened to my aunt.
Then she opened her five fingers slowly
And asked me to count them one by one
I stopped at five now all puzzled
Her eyes of love I sensed a ton.
My aunt a woman of generous spirit
Always explored God’s wisdom of gift
“He gifted us 10 fingers to cook,” she said
“But 5 are enough to eat”, she waved
“The rest five fingers are created to give
Our share they aren’t but of the poor who grieve
10 to cook and 5 to eat
10 to cook and 5 to give
God is an architect with a purpose behind
Device a method to know His mind”.
My woman that day gave soul to my fingers
Now they practice 10:5, in chorus
I learnt my lesson of giving I admit
To fill my family and also the weak.
