Teachers - Lisa Karantonis

If you’ve ever been to school, you’ll know what we mean

When we say that teachers are not as they seem

As soon as the bell rings school turns into a show

It’s actually quite entertaining, if you must know.

Miss Smith teaches English and uses big words

“It’s a quintessential day, just look at those birds”

She peers over her glasses with a thoughtful look

“Mmmm The Fault in our Stars - a most intoxicating book”

“Take out your books” says, no no grunts, no no growls grumping Mr Sloane That’s his standard daily greeting in the same boring tone

“Turn to page 4 in your books Maths is Fun

No talking, no whispering till everyone’s done.”

The Music teacher’s name is Mrs Von Trapp

She walks to a rhythm with a beat and a tap.

She sings to the rooftops in an impossible pitch

But just touch her guitar and she turns into a ……..witch!!!

The soft, lazy kids are petrified of coach Kurt

“500 push ups, now eat some dirt.

You call that a push up? What are you? A girl?”

“Yes coach, I mean no coach”, stststutters Mary almost ready to hurl!

Our History teacher marks in pink- never red

We have never heard her shout, she likes to sing instead She smiles and gives hugs and says, “ You’re such a star!” She draws hearts in our books and keeps a huge sweet jar.

Now you might think we’re lying or being typical teens You think we’re exaggerating or being drama queens “The teachers at my child’s school certainly don’t act that way They’re true professionals”, we can just hear you say

Well here’s a little secret and what we tell you is true Teachers are actors, entertainers through and through So if you think we talk nonsense then think who made us just so Teachers of course taught us everything we know
