Swim with me - Jamilah Reid

I'm scared to love or really try, because I don't want to get hurt.

The thought of being left or abandoned... scares me more than I admit.

I'm willing to swim but so afraid to touch the water.

So I stand at the beach and watch the waves go by as some touch my feet,

flooding with excitement and intention, as I sink beneath the sand for fear of being covered in salt and pureness, for only then will I really be sterile.

So...I leave the seaside empty as she sells seashells by the seashore,

but not her ore - while craving the crashing of the ocean around her completely.
