Surrender

I am weary of this quiet mask.

The safe distance is growing too cold,

I am tired from holding up this disguise.

I am letting my armor fall.

I want you to see the gentle, trembling truth

That I have been hiding from you all this time.

I cannot stand idle while time pulls you further away.

So I will speak the confession I had swallowed down,

Not as a demand, but as a plea.

I want to notice the side of you the world has never known,

The depths that no one else has seen.

I promise to accept the real you,

For better or for worse.

Let me be your only one,

Just as you will be the only one for me.

Let me be the one who makes you smile,

And the one who faces your storms.

I will lay my heart bare in your hands.

I am dropping the act completely,

Hoping that in this honest surrender,

I might finally earn the right

To call you mine.
