Sunflower
By Maryll Princely
And as your sun sets
Turns their face from your eager own
You wishing them a brighter morrow
None see
The droop of your petals
As your sky darkens from a gentle cotton blue
Now stained with inky black
Blotting out the remnants of your sol
None see the tip of your sun kissed face
As your vibrant eyes flood with unshed oceans
None notice except I
Hiding in the corners of your narrative
Always in your sky and yet
Camouflaged within
Your excellence of them
Constantly watching over but never looked upon
Waiting till you reach out to me
Your hands extended, yearning solace
Your loneliness radiating in waves
As you desperately search for a glimmer of their warmth, you crave
One, the poor copy that I am
Will satiate
At least temporarily
Till the chill of my own emptiness traverses into your warmth
I will reflect their light, their soul
My love lost in the brightness of yours
For another
But as long as your face is always shining
Basking in their glory
Your beauty excelling as your joy exudes
I, the moon, will be your sun
My sunflower, for you
I will be your heart’s desire
