Summer Coins

I trudged along the narrow lane,

I had watched this tree from my window-pane.

How it dazzles!

How it beams!

I was enchanted by its bright and lovely gleam.

Towards its beauty, I was drawn like a moth to a flame;

Towards its amber-gold I was ensnared, like a treasure-seeking game;

Indeed, a fortune it was – pellets of gold hung from its bower,

Yellow pearls in the ocean of summer hour.

I stood amazed – in a daze, under its canopy of gold,

O Laburnums! Your sight is divinely a sight to treasure, cherish and

behold.
