Struggle

By Dr Maitreyee Joshi

Sitting in the Child Development and Growth center of Bharati Vidyapeeth, I watched the two child psychologists conducting tests to know the mental development of the children who came as patients because their teacher or their parents found that they seemed to need help. I particularly enjoyed the test sessions because they had puzzles and games of varying skill levels to judge the child’s developmental age. There was that puzzle where each block has a shape and these are dislodged from their niches and the child has to place them back in the appropriate niche.

These days I find life so akin to that puzzle with the dislodged blocks from the niches. Your day throws a puzzle at you and you have to place all the day’s blocks in the appropriate niches but when you reach the skill level of a particular puzzle, again you are hit by another puzzle and you become busy trying to find the right places for another set of blocks and life maintains you at the level of that little child trying so hard and perplexed most of the times..
