Spring Poem
By Rituranjan Gogoi
The mango tree whispers its fragrance in my breath,
While I think of incessant rain, chuckling mud,
And the emerald glory of trees spreads like arousal
in the blaze of shifting sunlight
dancing on the watery paddy fields….
A cuckoo voices its elation,
Amidst the plum and peach blossoms
boasting of beauty,
Bush-berries laughing in red betwixt the thistles and thorns;
Everywhere there seems to be a song,
And, April comes, goes, like an egoist dreaming of romance,
While my heart becomes a flute of loneliness
silently calling the birds of summer
Nestling among wild orchid blooms, droning bees;
These dappled moments of light and air stretches to nothingness
and fades away, smiling,
Like dandelion seeds carrying the fragments of your name,
Buoyant in desire and wild thrill,
Caressing this spendthrift world in music;
Spring makes a temporal change,
Writing odd little poems on small leafy buds,
Memories of joy and sorrow,
Cities bustling with people in the lanes, smoke and shadows,
The pensive old woods with puffy winds,
Everything reminds of life;
Transient loveliness singing a hymn to death!
