I used to never believe in soulmates,

Until I saw the light your jubilant soul made.

Until I felt the vibrant butterflies that made my tummy ache.

I used to never believe in soulmates,

Until I saw you and only you in the once shallow lake.

I used to never believe in soulmates,

Until I saw you walk down the aisle with a smile on your face.

I used to think we were meant to be,

Your laughs made me ball, your cries made me fall.

I used to think we were meant to be,

You were the one whose joy I longed to see.

I used to think we were meant to be,

You were the shadow, you were the glee.

I used to think we were meant to be,

Until your lips said you weren’t destined to me.

I saw you that day in the summer,

I lost you that eve of winter.

I loved you behind closed doors, alone,

I loved you despite the love not to be returned.

I used to never believe in soulmates,

I used to think we were meant to be.

Until I saw you walking down the aisle smiling,

While I sat at the fourteenth row only to see.
