Soul Finds Solace
By Sayok Sarkar
I dream of places of awe and wonder,
A house near a lake,
The mighty mountains old and green glancing at me overhead;
Winds, lamenting over the forgotten dead, kept on wheezing loud,
The petals of a distant white flower settled mourning on the grave;
I tread slowly on the old pier that made a creaking noise,
I sat on the edge of it and smelled the earthy moss;
I put my feet inside the lake to feel the still chilling water,
But this gloominess was ended by the sound of bubbling water;
Little Molly flexing and swimming back and forth,
“Oh! So colorful!”, my Heart cried – “Exactly”, my Soul thought!
Curious about my feet it was gurgling in and out,
Jumping and dancing and wondering about the nature with innocence;
As the sun was setting down I went into a wood so dense,
I found a place to sit and admire the fireflies' menace;
The birds singing and chirping to call its young ones home;
Clouds overhung the sky, soft pitter-patter on the leaves,
Raindrops dripping tickling my ears calmed my fatigue;
I slept slowly to wake again to the honking of the cars filled with flashing city lights,
Where skyscrapers competed to reach great new heights;
I wish to go again to that mystic place,
Where my Soul finds solace.
