Sonnet #6 - The Grey Man

I enjoy the grey-man approach,

Mostly because it’s been thrust unwillingly upon me.

No one sees me; in fact, I’m written off, unable to encroach.

People’s eyes fall on me, but through me is all they see.

I’ve consistently been overlooked,

Thought uneducated or not up to scratch.

A man who was always a boy that moved slower,

Barely a number on the board.

And this - after many tears over many years - is my true strength:

My ability to be present, but not remembered.

An unremarkable person that falls into myth,

And to all of this, I’ve surrendered.

This grey man may walk among you all,

But never believe he will willingly allow himself to fall.
