Sometimes I Wake
By Amanda Antoinette Rebello
To a mild morning haze
Bathed in dripping sunbeams
Woke with moist droplets from the canthus of my eyes
Breathing in the slight suffocating air of my claustrophobic cage
Calming my racing pulse
Till I'm sure, I'm not ending today
I breathe in slow, my fingertips tingling with the fear of a new day
Gripping the sheets in one final push into this fading reality.
Sometimes I wake
To absent minds & vacant voids
Where my thoughts aren't my own even though I think them
An out of body experience
I am not myself.
Sometimes I wake
And drift into glorious limbo
Fading in and out of a myriad of dreams
Prismatic murals of superimposed colours
Away from the confines of reality
And dream of the day
I wake to nothing at all.
Sometimes I wake
To blissful nothingness.
