Some Days

I’ve heard that some days are like a gift.

You’re reading about good habits and meditating.

You set up your posture straight and you eat one roti more.

This one day, you don’t wake up with your usually whiney heart.

Today you’re resting. You’re finally resting.

You finish the book you’ve been putting down every day.

You don’t have mood swings today and you make jokes.

Jokes that don’t reflect sarcasm or your sad state of affairs. They’re not sad for now.

Today is the day you cook what you’ve wanted to eat for so many days.

You’re not that distracted from work. Just the normal amounts that let you function.

You don’t need to reassure yourself with positive affirmations today.

You’re organically and unbeatably okay.

You remember all the lyrics of your favourite rap song.

You’re singing outrageously with your windows open because you want your neighbours to know.

They don’t hear you when you cry.

The Sun doesn’t burn you today and it’s not so cold.

Your inadequacies are not chewing at your feet so you go for a walk.

Peace is a luxury but today you’re at a privilege.
