SOLDIER

The winter morning was bright and sunny,

With people sitting back comfortably in their homes safeguarding their valuable money.

But in a distant isolated land the winter morning came down as a catastrophe,

But indifferent to all of this the whole country was enjoying life and clicking so called happy selfies.

A group of miscreants attacked the innocent sleeping soldiers and burnt them alive,

Yes, I am talking about the attack of URI.

But indifferent to all their pain,

The soldiers gathered all their courage to strike back at those arsonists having in their minds no thought of gain

And the Indian army proved to the world on the day of surgical strike their power to sustain any pain

The attack had not caused the death of 21 soldiers,

but was the cause of womb isolation of 21 mothers.

The attack did not cause a loss to the count of Indian soldiers,

but was the cause of loss for the 21 fathers who had dreamt to complete their last ride on their son’s shoulder.

The attack though led to the honor of the martyred Indian strongholds,

But took life away from so many households.

The entire nation grieved for three days cried for four days,

But lost slowly lost the gravity and essence of their prayers.

And this is not the first time that such a scenario occurred but continuously comes crawling over and over.

Where from politicians to common mass shows no respect to those martyrs,

And the most afflicting part is that no one cares.

Be it the attack of 26/11 or the attack on parliament our soldiers never let our pride fall down but we in turn metaphorically came more down.

A life of a soldier is full of sacrifice and challenges.

When normal men see their children run in front of their eyes, they only have the portrait of their growing child which they see with moist eyes.

When we comfortably put our heads on the lap of our mothers they too rest upon the solid rocks of yet another mother.

When we cry out impatiently demanding expensive gadgets they eagerly wait to return back home to show with pride to their fathers their badges.

When we see daily the love of our life they wait for months to get a sight of their wife.

On Raksha Bandhan we give a promise to protect our sisters but they stand firmly on ground to protect lakhs of sisters.

When we sleep, they stand.

When we rest, they stand.

When we enjoy, they still stand.

We witness the seasons change comfortably in our homes. They wait for season change to just go once home.

When we comfortably remain warm in our blankets, they guard us at the Siachen wrapped up in a snowy blanket.

You want a picture of a perfect man, look at a soldier.

You want to witness an ideal life, look at the life of the soldier.

You want a life of pride, step into the shoes of a soldier.

You want to see a person who values life more than money, meet a soldier.

I am writing this poetry so freely expressing my thoughts about a soldier sole reason being i know far away somewhere he stands with pride protecting each and every one of us.
