Snakie Snakie

For those 3 cars that drove past me at the T-junction, me standing at my gate with a flash-light, trying to stop you...

This is the story...

I walked out of my bedroom into the garden, to go and fetch my slip-slops I left on the lawn.

My cat was acting strangely, intently looking at something, and I thought it was a akkedissie.

Not so.

A Puffy, about a meter long, was crossing in front of me.

I tried to shoo my cat inside, maar nee, she ran back to further inspect.

I had no option but to run inside the house and get my noose DIY snake catcher. I also emptied my dustbin in my kitchen (one of those that has a loose lid, with one half that lifts up.)

I kept mantra'ing myself... "Kalm...kalm...bly kalm Sharrie..." but my heart was beating like a dustbin. Sorry, I mean a 'drum'...

I ran outside and kept the loop on the ground just in front of Meneer. Or was it a Mevrou? It sailed into the noose and I closed the loop, picked it up (thinking of it now I was actually doing a little nervous Michael Flatly with my feet), and dropped it in the bin. The scariest part was loosening the noose and putting the lid back on. Timing was crucial!

I'll shorten the story before I bore you...

When I got no response shouting for help from my neighbour, or the three cars that passed me, I had to, go back inside the house with the bin, to get the gate keys.

(I tried to catch someone's attention to put something on the Community Whatsapp group (help), as I did not have reception on that side of the house).

My headlamp slipped off and do you know how difficult it is to keep your hand on the domed lid of a bin with a puffy inside, and put your headlamp on your head??

I managed, proceeded and opened the front gate and carried the bin down to the other side of the river. Another timing to open the lid and release the snake. As I was about to do it, I noticed my 2 cats had joined the expedition...

To conclude: it was released with ñ groot gesukkel. I am grateful that I, and my cats are safe. Thank you God.

So if you ever see a madwoman with a headlamp, waving... her other hand on a dustbin... please stop.

Oh, and don't ever think 20 minutes of your life cannot become a short story.
