Small Things

By Anand Gupta

I know you can’t see me

Nor I can find you, or

Your life-leasing smile, or

Your ruffling hairs in face of the wind, or

That, ah, that, ardour you bring with your presence,

Yes, all that magic and love in your eyes,

World has taken all that away from me for a while,

You know,

My never fading sunshine,

Apocalypse never seems so real,

All chips are falling, and

People are calling

these times satanic and desperate,

But, is it so?

These are times when

you can find a seat in a metro,

You can even watch stars twinkling in the sky

through your naked eyes, and

Fishes are appearing in the ponds,

Dolphins are again jumping in the rivers,

Flyovers are empty and roads are clean,

Windows are dust free and grass is looking green.

For years

I have been waiting to meet you

in a world like this,

Yeah, this much clean and calm world,

Where life is not just rushing to the metro, or

Catching an early cab, but

Living with loved ones,

Cheering and laughing at bad jokes,

Cooking simple food and

finding happiness at the dinner table alone.

But alas,

You can’t see me

nor I can find you

on these empty roads,

But, I promise,

When lockdown gets over, and

I will be yours and you will be mine,

We will weave our world as simple as this,

Finding ourselves in the ordinary, which

like always is about small and simple things
