Silent Sacrifice

A man steps foot into the adorned palace

In a disguise, none seem to recognise him by

The woman at the altar stills when she meets his eyes

The very same that once promised to keep her by his side

The wedding procession continues in full swing

As guests cheer for the vows and exchange of rings

The woman behind the veil silently accepts her role

Though her heart feels like forever stone

The man follows the woman to her room

She pays him no mind, for he's not her groom

Though he might've, had he not left

To partake in the war, that was a losing bet

Leaving everything he loved behind

His name, his honor, and his duty in mind

He takes in the sights of their room once shared

Where emotions, bodies, and secrets were bared

Now passed on to belong to another

Solely because he could no longer be her other

A sacrifice they both decided to uphold

For their tale shall now remain a whisper untold.
