Silent Cries

The cries of the ceiling fan

Match the rhythm drumming my head

A flock of birds, fluttering their wings

Feathers of chaos, flying through my brain

They say I cry wolf

My shrieks go unheard

I follow the train that leaves my dreams at the station

Writing notes to send for the last time

I wonder will they ever find

Buried under the pillow

My wounded heart throbbing

Saying, "I am still trying, you see"

A million little lights

They said, I did not see

I chose to wear the blindfolds

Even while not sleeping

They leave me in the dark

With the monsters smiling wide

I struggle to set myself free from their grip

I guess I am not trying hard enough
